Kniha Macaws v anglickém jazyce patří do edice knih, jež Tony Silva přichystal pro chovatele exotického ptactva po celém světě.
Autor knihy je nejen dlouholetým chovatelem, u něhož se prolínají jak jeho praktické, tak teoretické zkušenosti s chovem arů, ale zároveň člověkem, který coby terénní ornitolog navštívil a probádal biotopy, v nichž arové žijí nebo žili. A právě tato skutečnost činí knihu Tonyho Silvy o arech tolik odlišnou od „klasických“ knih, zabývajících se podobnou tematikou, neboť především informace o přirozené výživě a chování jsou vždy v chovatelství považovány za nepostradatelné. Jeho terénní práce zahrnovaly například porovnávání hmotnosti přirozeně odchovaných mláďat lokálně se vyskytujících druhů v Argentině s jejich protějšky odchovanými v zajetí.
Podíváme-li se na autora publikace očima chovatele, tak naprosto vše říkající je skutečnost, že kromě arů Learových a arů tyrkysových se mu podařilo dosáhnout odchovu u všech druhů arů. Tony Silva během své chovatelské kariéry a rovněž během svého působení na pozici kurátora v Loro Parque na Tenerife choval 82 % všech papouščích druhů, z nichž se mu většina také podařila odchovat.
Autor mnohokráte navštívil Českou republiku a Slovensko, zúčastnil se zde několika seminářů, na nichž prezentoval své rozsáhlé chovatelské zkušenosti, a má k našemu regionu silnou osobní vazbu.
